CDD (Client Due Diligence)
The process of identifying and verifying a client’s identity, understanding the nature of their relationship with you, and assessing risk before doing business with them.
CDD is the actual work of FICA compliance: identifying who your client is, verifying that identity against a real source rather than accepting a document at face value, understanding what the transaction is for, and keeping evidence of all of it.
For companies and trusts, CDD extends to beneficial ownership. How deep it needs to go scales with risk: a standard residential sale needs less scrutiny than a high-value or higher-risk client, which is where your RMCP’s own risk-rating rules come in.
See it in practice, not just in theory.
